  • Building the Custom Control Panel Design

    Published On: 01/20/15

A control panel is an area or disclosure where control and other monitoring instruments are displayed. They are found in industries to monitor and control the machines at production lines such as aircrafts, ships, automobile industry, mainframe computers, nuclear power plant and more. The traditional panels consist of indicator lights, toggle switches and push while modern solutions come with touchscreen interface for controlling the devices.

Control panel is an important part of electronic and automated equipments since the capabilities and features of these machines remain useless if there is no way to interact with them. These automated equipments actually consist of software that requires a physical interface for being operated, managed and controlled by the individual, and this function is served by the control panel. Hence, the main goal of it is to improve the product usability and this is possible only with an effective and easy to use design.

Today, companies usually prefer to outsource control panel designs to the expert manufacturers and designers. With the technological advancements, newer computing technologies and systems have arrived that speed up the process of control panel design. So, an industry that is not competent in this or is more focused on other core processes, leave these tasks to those who have enough expertise and are well-aware of these latest technologies. With the support of the latest programs, these firms assure to deliver more precise front panels design, faster and cost effectively. These programs are generally computer-aided design (CAD) programs that help in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a control panel design. A CAD program generally output a complete design in the form of paper or electronic document or using either vector based or raster graphics.

Outsourcing the control panel design to expert firm also helps the companies keep forth their specific requirements and get a custom design built to perfection. This is important because every device or equipment is used differently and has varied features. It should be easier and convenient for the device operator to debug running programs and diagnose hardware issues while standing in front of the panel. The operator starts by using the toggle switches to input commands to the machine. Today’s modern devices let the operator to set switches to a language that the machine understands more easily. Even some machines also allow I/O devices to be instructed right from the control panel. Therefore, control panel design plays a vital role and requires critical attention. No two devices could have the same design and to make sure that every panel has a unique design, the responsibility should be outsourced to other firms who are well-educated in this and have advanced control panel design programs that could efficiently fulfill these requirements.

Moreover, this is cost-saving because for a company, this is not economically feasible to handle each and every task on its own. At some point, there is always need to hire expert services either for component designing, support or testing.

Testimonial / What Our Client Say

Andre and his team were professional, focused and sensitive to the timing issues associated with my project. Most importantly, after the project completed Andre and his team did not disappear. As I needed answers and follow up information, his team followed up in a timely and accurate manner. I look forward to using the services again and would recommend them highly.
